Artiste native de Niort, Adèle Chavassieu d’Haudebert se consacre à la peinture sur émail et expose ses œuvres au Salon de Paris entre 1806 et 1824. Elle est notamment réputée pour avoir participé à la grande commande du comte Giovanni Battista Sommariva (1760-1826). Cet important collectionneur d’art néo-classique et romantique du début du XIXe siècle en France et en Italie a fait appel aux plus importants artistes émailleurs de l’époque, tels Abraham Constantin (1785-1855), Édouard Gautier-Dagoty (1775-1871) et Henri L’Évêque (1769-1832) pour exécuter des œuvres en émaux peints d’après les grands maîtres anciens et les plus fameux artistes contemporains. Sur la centaine d’œuvres émaillées commandées par lui, pas moins de soixante-dix-neuf étaient de la main d’Adèle Chavassieu.

C’est peut-être dans le cadre de cette commande que l’artiste rencontra le célèbre peintre et graveur Auguste Boucher-Desnoyer qui publie depuis 1796 les œuvres les plus remarquables de l’histoire de la peinture et dont la gravure de la Belle Jardinière d’après Raphaël propulse sa carrière. Ici, Adèle Chavassieu le présente au faîte de sa gloire, dans sa tenue d’académicien (il est reçu en 1816), affichant la médaille de chevalier de la Légion d’honneur (nommé le 23 juin 1820).
