Description
English: Bust portrait of a man in uniform. "Col. John Poten, 5th Mo Reserve Corps 1862, 1st Lieut. Co 'E' 3rd Mo Infty on 90 days service 1861" (written below image on album page). Incorrectly identified as John Poten in the album. The information given in the album helps to identify the subject as August H. Poten. Poten was 1st. Lt. with 3rd Missouri Vol. Infantry on three months service and as a major with the 17th Missouri Vol. Infantry and then with the 5th Missouri Vol. Infantry as a colonel.
