The lobster is an iconic New England commercial species, but this one is safe for another day. As part of our diving work at EPA, we are often assessing habitat quality or compiling species lists. "No matter how many times we see lobsters (and we see lots of them), I am always amazed at the variation in coloration. No two ever seem to be exactly the same combination of colors. For some reason, the colors always seem more vivid in the wild, than in the tank at the supermarket." - EPA Diver Phil Colarusso. Lobsters can be found in a wide range of habitats from boulder fields to cobble to soft sediments. We routinely find them in eelgrass meadows digging burrows in the soft sediment. The root structure of the plant prevents the roof of the burrow from caving in.
