HISTORIE:

Das Asiatische Streifenhörnchen wurde in den 1960iger Jahren in Belgien eingeführt. Einige Exemplare fanden aus der Privathaltung den Weg in die Freiheit, so auch in den forêt de Soignes/Zonienwoud, wo sie ein neues Lebensgebiet fanden. Heute hat sich ihr Lebensraum erweitert, und sie sind vielerorts zu finden. Im Gegensatz zu unserer einheimischen Spezies lebt diese Gattung nicht auf Bäumen, sondern auf dem Boden, in Erdlöchern und in verzweigten unterirdischen Gängen.

Il fut importé dans les années ´60 comme animal de compagnie. Relâché dans la nature, il est aujourd´hui omniprésent dans la forêt de Soignes où il vit au sol, contrairement à l´écureuil roux indigène qui est essentiellement arboricole.

Het eekhoorn werd in de jaren '60 in ons land ingevoerd als gezelschapsdier-in-een-kooitje. Ontsnapte exemplaren vonden in het Zonienwoud een geschikt leefgebiet en zijn er nu overal te vinden. In tegenstelling tot de inheemse eekhorn leeft deze soort neet in bomen, maar op de grond.
