Description
English: War Memorial Beacon, situated downtown Auckland near the Viaduct Basin, next to the Maritime Museum at the entrance to Princes Wharf. This Beacon memorial was originally erected in 1915 by the Auckland Harbour Board to remember staff who served in WW1. This memorial is for staff who survived the war as well as those who were killed. In 2000 it was restored and re-erected apparently by "a grateful refugee from Nazi Germany." I recall reading at the time that the memorial had been found neglected in a storage room somewhere, well out of the public view.
