Summary[edit]
DescriptionAuchendinny station - Geograph-2732561-by-Jim-Barton.jpg |
English: Site of former Auchendinny Station The Penicuik Railway ran from Edinburgh Waverley to Penicuik, and was designed by Thomas Bouch, as a branch line from the Peebles Railway (opened 1855). Seventeen years later (1872) the branch line to Penicuik opened from Hawthornden junction to Valleyfield Station Penicuik; it was closed in 1967. The branch had stations at Rosslyn Castle and Auchendinny. For protection of the Roslin gunpowder mills, the line ran through a 300 yd metal tunnel south of Rosslyn station. A third station at Eskbridge opened in 1874. The 15½ mile journey from Edinburgh Waverley to Penicuik took 43 minutes, according to the 1922 Bradshaw timetable. |
