Description

Aubigné-Racan (Sarthe).

Le marché-forum.

L'agrandissement du IIe siècle. La galerie à été repoussée vers la droite.

Le marché forupm était pour l'essentiel une grande cour entourée en grande partie de galeries.

Deux petites pièces d'angles servaient probablement de bureaux aux édiles chargés de surveiller le marché. Les édiles présidaient à la police des marchés. Un édile de Nîmes avait fait sculpter sur son tombeau les attributs de ses fonctions : la balance et les poids qu'il était chargé de vérifier.

L'activité de boucherie est certainement à l'origine des très nombreux os de bovins qui ont été retrouvé. Il a été retrouvé également plus de 13 000 valves d'huitres. Les huitres pouvaient être transportées fraîches dans des amphores pleines d'eau de mer, ou conservées dans de la saumure ou du vinaigre.

Les monnaies découvertes attestent d'une activité durant les trois premiers siècles.

Une fontaine était placée au centre de la cour.

Les halles furent agrandies au IIe siècle et abandonnées au IIIe.
