His right arm is bound beliind him,his left triced by the wrist held above his head to a branch ofthe tree, and his left leg is crossed before the right. He isnude, with a varicolored drapery folded about his hips, andthe flesh is in mellow tones, the light falling from the left andabove and throwing the opposite side of his body into slightshadow. His long hair falls behind his shoulders and a nimbusencircles his adoring head, while two arrows pierce his body.The background below is a landsca))e with houses, rocks andsea; and a procession of warriors, mounted and afoot, carry-ing halberds, battle-axes, bows and banners, winds along roadsand over bridges, their red and golden-yellow costumes seenagainst tones of orange-brown and olive, of the green-blue ofthe sea, and of the gray-browns of buildings.
