Description |
English: So-called Portrait of Françoise de Roquelaure "Mademoiselle de Roquelaure" (1683-1741), but it’s probably a depiction of her mother Marie Louise de Laval-Montmorency-Lezay, Duchess of Roquelaure (1657-1735) (the sitter is coiffed and dressed in the fashion of around 1680). |

Provenance: Sir John G. Tollemache Sinclair sale, Christie's, 4 April 1913, part of lot 129, 'Mignard §Portrait of Mademoiselle de Soissons, in blue cloak; and Portrait of Mademoiselle de Roquelaure, in rich dress, with blue scarf - a pair§', bought by Cremetti, £18 18s. "It is unclear whether the dealer ‘Cremetti’ was acting directly for Lord Leverhulme at the Christie’s sale, or whether he then acquired the paintings at a later date." [1] |
