Summary
[edit]The factual accuracy of this coat of arms or the file name is disputed.
Reason: This is one of a set of ahistorical arms contained in later, Western European sources such as Rietstap's Armorial, that are not attested in the Byzantine period. The Byzantines did not use heraldry in the Western sense, nor are any family-specific emblems attested in the available sources. On the issue of the adoption of the double-headed eagle by the Komnenos damily in particular, see the description below and the relevant article on the English Wikipedia. |

Or, a double-headed eagle Sable. The introduction of the double-headed eagle by Isaac Komnenos is a popular tradition, but it has no historical support. N. Zapheiriou, The Greek Flag from Antiquity to present (1947), pp. 21–22. |
