Description
Deutsch: Attendorn, Wasserstraße 1. Stolperstein für den Kaufmann Emil Stern (18.09.1877–25.07.1942). Emil Stern absolvierte eine kaufmännische Lehre und arbeitete im Familienbetrieb (Kaufhaus Raphael Lenneberg) in Attendorn mit. Am 15. August 1914 wurde ihm Prokura für die Firma R. Lenneberg erteilt. Er nahm am Ersten Weltkrieg von 1917 bis Ende 1918 teil (Eisernes Kreuz). Emil Stern und seine Schwester Betty wohnten im eigenen Haus am Hindenburgwall (heute Südwall). Sie waren die letzten verbliebenen Juden in Attendorn und mussten nach der Reichspogromnacht 1938 ihr Haus veräußern und bis zu ihrem Freitod 1942 zur Miete im alten Böheimerschen Haus wohnen. Am 27. Juli 1942 sollten Emil und Betty Stern in das Ghetto Theresienstadt deportiert werden. Bevor sie abgeholt wurden, nahmen sie ein stark wirkendes Schlafmittel ein. Das Gift war ihnen von einem befreundeten Attendorner Apotheker verschafft worden. Emil Stern wurde am Tag des Abtransports tot in seinem Bett aufgefunden, seine Schwester bewusstlos. Sie wurde im bewusstlosen Zustand ins Dortmunder Gestapogefängnis Steinwache eingeliefert. Dort soll sie zwei Tage später am 29. Juli 1942 verstorben sein. Emil Stern wurde auf dem jüdischen Friedhof in Attendorn beerdigt (letzte Beerdigung eines jüdischen Mitbürgers auf dem Friedhof).
