Nederlands: De stad Rome was tijdens de 17de eeuw een populaire reisbestemming voor vele kunstenaars en geleerden. Voor al diegenen die zich de kosten van een dergelijke reis niet konden of wilden dragen, verzorgde de Amsterdamse uitgever Nicolaes Visscher II (1649-1702) een serie prenten waarin de belangrijkste architectonische en archeologische hoogtepunten van de stad waren vastgelegd. De reeks werd verzorgd door de graveur Willem_Swidde (ca. 1660-1697).
English: The city of Rome was in the 17th century a popular place for travellers, artists and scientists. For all those who lacked the money to visit Rome, Nicolaes Visscher II (1649-1702) provided a series of prints with the most important architectural and archeological highlights of the city engraved by Willem_Swidde (c. 1660-1697).
