Description
Türkçe: Atik Girit Madalyası: 36 mm. 24 gr. (gümüş). İhtas Tarihi: H.1285, M.1868. Madalyanın Tuğrasını Hüsrev Efendi, Yazılarını Naif Efendi, Resim ve nakışlarını Mr.Robertson yapmıştır.Kyrdelasi kırmızıdır.

Bu madalya Girit Adasının hizmetinde bulunmuş olan kara ve deniz asker ve subaylarıyla, askeri komutanlara ve diğer memurlara, nışanı iftiharı olamak üzere imal edilmiştir. Giritli Rum isyancılar, 1866 tarihinde Hacı Mihail önderliğinde ayaklanarak adayı Yunanistan'a iltihak ettiklerini açıklamışlardır. Bunun üzerine Osmanlı Devleti, hem isyanı bastırarak adaya hakim olmak ve hem de Girit'e büyük devletlerin müdahelesine imkan bırakmamak için yönetsel düzenlemelere gitmiş, bu iş için Ali Paşa'yı görevlendirmiştir.

15 Şubat 1968 de yayımlanan Girit nizamnamesinde Türk'lerin ve Rum'ların yerel çoğunluğuna dayalı yönetimmeclisleri ile bu meclislerin çalışmalarıyla ilgili kanun ve yönetmelikler hazırlanmıştır. İşte bu madalya Girit isyanında görev yapan askerler ve yukarıda belirtilenlere verilmiştir.
