The tower appears to have been built in the twelfth century. It occupied approximately the center of a walled area of 45 to 50 acres. The fortified wall, 1.40 m thick was itself surrounded by moats. The surrounding wall has now disappeared, except for some items included in a recent construction. The first known lord of Brandon William Brandon (Guillelmus of Brandone) died in 1205. The castellany of Brandon was a vassal of the castle of Montbazon. |
