Michael Connor, commander, Submarine Forces, Mathew Shilling, a Newport News Shipbuilding employee, Matt Mulherin, President of Newport News Shipbuilding, former Sen. John Warner and his wife Jeanne Warner stand behind a welded steel plate bearing the initials of the submarine's namesake and sponsor during the keel laying ceremony for the Virginia-class attack submarine Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) John Warner (SSN 785).
