| Description |
English: At the foot of the stairs The eight-rise staircase of locks on the Caledonian Canal at Banavie, near Fort William. Staircase locks have no intervening pound between each lock, as in a flight of locks. Instead, the top gates of the first lock become the bottom gates of the second lock as the boat rises. This requires careful water management to ensure that the system works smoothly. |
