Thesemen are both confirmed impressionists, but, as withtheircoUeagues in every department of contemporaryGerman art, this impressionism is assimilative, notimitative. They have taken only that which was in-nately congenial to their taste and temperament andin liie process it has been com)jletely transmuted.Even more characteristic of the general tendency ofTeutonic painting toward simplification of style isthe work of the nature poets, Walter Leistikow andLudwig Dill, each of whom is here represented by asingle fine canvas. Mr. Rcisingers Leistikow isnot one of tho.se structurally rigid (irunewald sceneswhich, to some minds, seem too severely formal, buta soft and ambient Danish landscajie of singular(harm of color and design.
