Title |
asymmetrical buckle |
||
Description |
English: Incomplete cast copper alloy small double loop asymmetrical buckle, missing its pin, but with transverse grooves on both outer edges, where the pin would have rested. There is iron corrosion product on the pin rest and around the pin bar, suggesting that the pin would have been made of iron or steel. The pin bar is flush with the frame, and is 9 mm long, 2 mm wide and 2 mm in thickness. The frame is 18 mm long, 14 mm wide and 2 mm thick. The original surface of the frame has mostly corroded away but there are patches of black material on the back of the frame which suggests that the frame was originally lacquered.
Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar asymmetrical buckle on page 92, No.580, which is dated from c.1575-1700. |
