Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Asian Town Center, a shopping mall located at 3820 Superior Avenue (also known as 1541 E. 38th Street) in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.

The 115,000 square foot building was originally built about 1920 by the J.M. and L.A. Osborn Company. This firm, founded in 1901, was a plumbing and heating pipe supply firm. The structure was renovated in 1941. In 1944, the Osborn Co. was sold to Milcor Steel, a subsidiary of Inland Steel. Inland (which had purchased the Joseph T. Ryerson & Sons steel marchandising concern in 1935) later changed its name to Inland-Ryerson Construction Products Co. and manufactured gutters and downspouts at the site.

The L.D. Kichler Co., a lighting fixture manufacturer, purchased the building in 1974. Kichler moved out of the structure in 1992.

In 2003, the Duong family, owners of Asia Food Co. (an Asian grocery store) purchased the facility. A portion of the project opened in 2008, but the Great Recession had a significant negative impact on its completion. The city stepped in with emergency loans, and the remainder of Asian Town Center opened in 2010. The mall includes Korean and Vietnamese restaurants, a large Asian grocery store, dance studio, homeopathic medicine pharmacy, martial arts studio, and the Negative Space Art Gallery.
