Survey number: HAER RI-43. "The Ashton Viaduct is one of the State of Rhode Island's largest engineering projects. It is a fine example of open spandrel design and, as the northern terminus of the Washington Highway, an important link in the state's highway system of the post-World War II era. The Ashton Viaduct is an inventoried contributing resource of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, spanning both the river and the Blackstone Canal Historic District."
