Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The large and fiercely active Shiveluch volcano sent towering plumes of ash over Kamchatkas autumn landscape in early October 2015. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying on NASAs Aqua satellite captured this true-color image on October 8.

According to the Kamchatka Volcano Eruption Response Team (KVERT) explosive-extrusive eruption typical of the volcano continues. On October 8, explosions at the volcano sent ash plume up to 4.5 km (2.8 mi) above sea level and the plume drifted about 25 km (15.5 mi) to the south-east. In addition, during the week of October 2-9, lava dome extrusion on the north flank was accompanied by incandescence, hot avalanches and fumarolic activity (steaming gas release).

KVERT cautions that ash explosions up to 32,800 feet (10 km) could occur at any time, and ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft. The Aviation Color Code remains at Orange.
