Description
English: Razia Jan, founder of the Razia's Ray of Hope Foundation, speaks with shop owners at a bazaar in Nawa District, Helmand province, Afghanistan, June 5, to ask if they know of women who are looking for work. Razia, born in Afghanistan, moved to the United States in 1970, and has been been committed to the cause of empowering women of Afghanistan through education and employment. Razia is visiting Helmand province on behalf of Arzu Studio Hope to search for potential business locations. Arzu Studio Hope is a nonprofit social enterprise that supports Afghan women by selling the rugs they weave at home. "I'm not getting anything out of this," said Razia. "This project is completely for the women of Afghanistan and we have to start somewhere. It makes a lot of difference when a woman has a little money in her pocket."
