Summary
[edit]DescriptionArrow-marked Babbler, Turdoides jardineii, at Loodswaai Game Reserve, Gauteng, South Africa. - 51119557366.jpg |
English: It is native to woodlands in the southern Afrotropics, where it lives in social groups of between 3 and 15 birds (six being the average) that defend large territories, with the size of the territory being dependent upon the number of individuals in the group. It belongs to the family Leiothrichidae, which are called laughingthrushes and show greatest diversity in Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Babblers belong to the genus Turdoides, which has 19 species.
They are easily recognised by their raucous laughter-like sounds, as they forage together in a noisy group. |
