Description
English: NASA satellites have helped scientists study creatures living in the oceans whether it's finding suitable waters for oysters or protecting the endangered blue whale. Scientists also use the data to learn more about one of the most vulnerable ecosystems on the planet – coral reefs.


This image shows a large reef system on Arrecife Alacranes – Spanish for “Scorpion Reef” in the southern Gulf of Mexico. The image was acquired on November 5, 2014, by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8.
