Description

The Arnold Mac 700 was produced from 1949 till 1959. Made in US-zone of Germany. The first version of the Mac 700 looks rather austere with a tan rider and a black motorcycle Just like the BMW's of the time that were delivered in black only. Around 1955 an update of the toy keeps the same litho but now in a more attractive red collor. This red version is less common than the black one. This toy is a masterpiece of German precision engineering. It's a very 'clean' toy; all connections are made without any tabs showing. And the clockwork motor performs some really complicated movements. On the bike you find three levers to program the action. 1. The bike stands stationary with a realistic engine sound. 2. The bike is turning circles. 3. And the most spectaculair action .. the motorcycle is running a circle and stops. The rider swings its leg over the bike and stands beside it. The bike starts moving again while the rider swings back on the saddle. It runs its circle and the action starts all over again.

In 1956 the Arnold toy company (Arnold Spielwaren from Nuremberg) existed 50 years and some limited editions were made to celebrate this anniversary. The special 'jubileum' edition of the Mac700 had the rider fixed on the saddle. A sidecar was attached with a battery to run an electric motor. By means of a flexible wire you control the steering of the bike. This sidecar version of the Arnold Mac is by far the most scarce.
