Summary
[edit]DescriptionArne, disused (fake^) Victorian postbox - geograph.org.uk - 1718955.jpg |
English: Arne: disused (fake?) Victorian postbox There is no operational postbox in Arne today, and this sight in the wall of 1718942 gives the impression that there once was. There may well have been, and it may have been here, but I have my doubts as to whether this is a genuine Victorian box. Firstly there is very little sign of the wear that you might expect of something that has been in existence for over a hundred years, and indeed in daily use for many of them. More suspicious is the appearance of the words POST BOX on the hood - I'm pretty sure this phrase is never used on postboxes and I would have expected to see POST OFFICE or, perhaps, LETTERS ONLY. |
