English: Members of 3 Regt Army Air Corps drag the fuel hose back to the fuel tanker after refuelling an Apache AH64-E. The British Army’s new Apache AH-64E attack helicopter has taken its first outing into the field. Exercise Talon Guardian has seen 3 Regiment Army Air Corps operate its AH-64Es from three separate locations on a two-week-long, 1,500km journey across the country. Engineers have been keeping the aircraft in working order in the field, while aircrew have been planning and executing strike missions, supported by groundcrew running Forward Arming and Refuelling Points to keep the AH-64E’s fuel tanks and weapons pylons full. 3 Regt AAC is the first unit to field the AH-64E, which brings improved flying performance, sensors, weapons, and communications systems over the Apache Mk.1 it replaces. The training is to rehearse 3 Regt AAC in its role to provide an aviation deep strike battlegroup to 3rd (UK) Division, the British Army’s war fighting division. |
