Description
English: Detail from mural monument in St John's Church, Penistone, of Godfrey Bosville (d.1714) of Gunthwaite, Yorkshire, Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1705. A shield of 8 quarters:
  • 1: Argent, five lozenges conjoined in fess gules and in chief three bear's heads erased at the neck sable muzzled or (Bosville);
  • 8: Gules, a fess vair in chief a unicorn passant between two mullets or a bordure sable engrailed bezantée (Wilkinson)[1] (for his mother Mary Wilkinson (d.1661), daughter and heiress of Roger Wilkinson, a Citizen of the City of London,[2] and step-daughter of Sir Isaac Penington, Lord Mayor of London[3])
  • Over all an inescutcheon of pretence of Hotham (Barry of nine argent and azure (better stated as Argent, four bars azure, barry shields are for even numbers of bars only)), on a canton or a Cornish chough proper , quartering Beaumont (Azure semée of fleus-de-lys, a lion rampant or)), for his wife Bridget Hotham, daughter of Sir John Hotham, Baronet, of Scorborough, by his wife Elizabeth Beaumont (d.1708), sister and heiress of Sapcote Beaumont, 2nd Viscount Beaumont of Swords (1614–1658).
