Notes | Nursing armbands; white linen with applique red cross Possibly belonged to Nurse Barbara S Greig, QAIMNSR, who nursed in France between 1915-1917. Otherwise belonged to her sister Elsie Greig who served during WW1 with the Australian Army Nursing Service, and worked with the EPS in Auckland during WW2. Nurse Barbara Sibyl Greig who trained at Wellington Hospital, pre WW1. When war broke out she made her own way to England and enlisted with QAIMNSR. In January 1915, within three days of enlisting, Nurse Greig was nursing in France - in time for the Battle of the Somme. While in England, and still during the war, she married Lieut. Stanley Austin Carr, Auckland Mounted Rifles, whom she had known before the war. Elsie Greig also trained in New Zealand but was nursing in Australia and in WW1 joined the Australian Army Nursing Service. She later returned to New Zealand and lived in Remuera where she cared for her mother. During WW2 she did some work with the Emergency Precautions Service in Remuera. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
