Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Arkle Beck above Beck Crooks Bridge Arkle Beck is formed from the confluence of William Gill and Annaside beck 150m before it passes under the Arkengarthdale road, draining the northeast-facing slopes of Arkengarthdale Moor. The rocks underlying the blanket peat are hard gritstones and softer shales with the occasional thin coal seam (still mined until recently). The tougher gritstone survives to form cobbles which make up the streambed, becoming peat-stained and an attractive orange in the sun.
