English: Archaeologists Johan Ling (closest in picture) and Ulf Ragnesten from the University of Gothenburg and the Gothenburg City Museum show the remains of an approximately 40 m long and 9 m wide hall building from the later Iron Age in Ytterby to the public and the press, 12 May 2009. The site RAÄ 22: 1, Ytterby parish (next to the burial field RAÄ 22 Västra Porten / Smällen) has been interpreted as the original Norwegian royal estate hall building Kungahälla. The investigations of settlement remains next to the RAÄ 22 Västra Porten/Smällen burial ground began in the 2000 season, when initial archaeological research activities began on the burial ground and its immediate context during the Kungahälla project, led by archaeologist Kristina Bengtsson. From 2005 to 2011, the archaeologists at the University of Gothenburg carried out excavations every season. |
