Summary
[edit]DescriptionArichonan Township - farm and fank - geograph.org.uk - 245870.jpg |
English: Arichonan Township - farm and fank. The township of Arichonan is mentioned in 1654 but the surviving ruins date from early 19th century. The settlement was forcibly cleared in 1848. This farmhouse is only one of selection of ruined buildings that mark this abandoned settlement. Until recently they were enclosed within modern forestry plantains which have recently been felled and free access facilitated with paths. The triangular ventilation apertures are a local feature found in many such barns. Within this and other barns it is possible to see where the cruck frames that supported the thatched roof fitted into the masonry inside. |
