L'édifice a été très ébranlé en 1740, au moment où l'on ouvrit une tranchée pour faire passer la nouvelle route. La chapelle a été vendue comme bien national en 1793 et recédée à la ville par les acquéreurs en l'an III. Elle a ensuite servi d'entrepôt de grains et d'annexe du marché au blé. Elle a été restaurée en 1873 sous la direction de l'architecte Dauvergne. Aujourd'hui, elle sert de lieu d'exposition.
