The Varaha temple in Kadvar is close to the coastline and about 7 kilometers southeast from the famed Somnath temple. The significance of the Varaha temple is its uncommon rectangular floor plan instead of the common square plan. Not only is its sanctum rectangular, so are the mandapa and other sections. The temple provides evidence of different floor plans in vogue amongst ancient Hindu temples. It is also a temple from the pre-Chalukyan era.

The Varaha temple includes Dasavatara artwork, both on the walls of the porches as well as the prabhavali of the Varaha statue. Thus, this was always a Vishnu tradition temple. Unfortunately, this temple's shikhara is lost and artwork mutilated, as this temple also suffered from destruction during the Islamic invasions of Gujarat. There has been much scholarly speculation and debate on the style of shikhara above the sanctum. One proposal says it was Vallabhi as it would fit this design nicely, the other says it was a Phamsana because of some of the broken ruins excavated near it.

This Kadvar Vishnu temple is also notable for it including Shaiva and Devi tradition artwork. There is Ganesha on the lintel, Ganga and Yamuna flanked the doorway (damaged and set aside), the five panels that show Surya, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and Chandra. Right above these are aedicules with early Hindu chaitya-style windows. Its features and iconography suggest that it was built about the same time as the historic Gop and Visavada temples of Gujarat.
