Summary
[edit]DescriptionArchitectural detail, Priory House, Bruton - geograph.org.uk - 665970.jpg |
English: Architectural detail, Priory House, Bruton Above the shield in the letters IH(I is the medieval J) and PB, standing for John Henton, Prior of Bruton. Between the initials is the rebus (or punning picture) of a Hen and a Tun (or barrel). In the 15th Century he brought to an end the somewhat relaxed regime at the Priory, banning playing of dice, hunting, indulging in frivolities and women in the Priory, but he did improve their beer. |
