Thesegardens were landscaped under the direc-tion of the architect and Florence Yoch andLucille Council, landscape architects. Interior of the house typifies a modifiedand modern use of Georgian tradition.The library and dining room are panelled unit furnaces. Gas heating, which may beaccomplished with several different typesof equipment from central furnaces to smallunits, provides a flexible system for the re-quirements of any house. The gas unitfurnaces in this instance are furnished withautomatic temperature control.

Architect in the Georgian manner, each having Co-lonial fireplaces, in addition to the fireplacesprovided in the living room and masterssitting room. First and second story porches add con-siderably to the livability and comfort ofthe house. All of the principal rooms areso arranged that sliding doors give maxi-mum access and outlook upon these porchesand gardens beyond. Heating of the Irvine residence has beentaken care of by the installation of six gas Mr. Kelley, the architect, has gainedprominence for the design of many well-known residences in California, and hasbeen successful in winning a number ofNational architectural honors, includingfirst prize in a 1928 competition for a smallhouse: first prize in the National BetterHomes Contest conducted by the HomeOwners Institute of New York in 1929;first prize in the National Own Your HomeContest in 1929, as well as a number ofother national architectural competitions.
