h a Foamite system. A new dry-powder foam system of fire protectionhas been perfected at the port and the foam appli-cation is deposited on the surface of the oil in thetanks rather than dropped on it from a height. The miles of piping have been laid out to achievesimplicity and directness. The piping arrangementis so constructed that if so desired products maybe pumped directly into barges at the same timethat they are being pumped into the storage tanks.Tanks have been arranged to provide a maximumof gravity. There are six groups of connections for steamersand eight groups for barges. Thus, cargoes can beloaded or unloaded fore and aft at the same time.Independent piping has been arranged for elevendifferent grades of petroleum products. The port has a complete Ethylizing system forthe production of aviation gasoline. Extensive flood-lighting facilities have been in-stalled for night operation.
