uit the problem. The beauty of the panels so executedis that they tie into the architecture as part of it, yet may be made tostand out or blend into the general scheme as may be desired. It has been argued that this new technique is not so new. that it isa combination of carving, plastering, engraving, scrafito, watergilding.sculpturinq, etc.. and such is indeed the case. However, the United StatesPatent Office granted the writer a patent to do this work as a new thing, for it is the manner and purpose for which it is used and the combinationof the two in relation to mural decoration, that is new. When Columbusdiscovered America, the ocean and mainland, as well as the ships, werealready in existence. Mr. Heinsbergens work is familiar to architects throughout thecountry, some of his more recent commissions being the Interstate Com-merce and Labor Building in Washington, D.C.. the State Capitol Libraryin Sacramento, the Los Angeles City Hall and the San Francisco Elksand Olympic Clubs. ^
