To the westis a sweeping view across city and thebroad reaches of Puget Sound, to distantwooded shores, beyond which rise up the tumbled masses of the Olympics. To thenorth is a great sweep over city and watersand the outlying flat open country. To theeast is city and the blue waters of LakeWashington, while along the eastern sky-line is the great wall of the Cascades,snow-capped for much of the year. Architects diately surrounding the building are thelawns and trees and shrubbery of the park,verdantly vigorous after the manner ofsuch things in the happy land of the plantworld. In this beautiful setting, the white stonewalls of the museum stand clean and clear. Walker-Wilkeson sandstone of selectedvariety was used for the main or westernfacade and on the narrow ends of the northand south wings. The eastern side, wherefuture extensions may be made, is stuc-coed. The structural frame is of reinforcedconcrete and exterior walls, behind the THE ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER ^ 17 ► NOVEMBER, NINETEEN THIRTV-THREE
