Riverside, California, has acquired a number of sites of this size, as have Mil-waukee, Fort Wayne and other easterncities. Gary, Indiana, has a standard oftwenty acres for every school site. Regional planning activity in theUnited States has materially increased, par-ticularly in and about Chicago, Los An-geles, Philadelphia and Washington. Manynew county planning commissions havebeen established. Airports increasingly demand attentionof the city planners, as the country becomesmore air-minded, and many cities andcounties have voted bonds for the estab-lishment of such ports. Appearance of mu-nicipal air terminals from the air and theimportance of good looking roofs is nowbeing emphasized by farsighted city plan-ners.
