ENTRANCE, RESIDENCE OF C. F. PAXTON, ORANGE GROVE AVENUE, PASADENAReginald D. Johnson, Architect One of the ten most notable examplesof Architecture in Los Angeles, asselected by the recent Jury. Paxton Residence—This is a charming plaster house in the Spanish Renaissance style,a style now so generally being developed in and around Los Angeles. The Paxton Resi-dence was selected from among a number of others, almost equally worthy of note, becauseof the pleasmg manner in which it fits into its location under the trees, because of itsmterest.ng terrace on the south side and exterior staircase, and because its scale is intimateand homehke without a loss of dignity or of strength of design. The color of this houseIS to be commended, as deviating from the standard Spanish pink, and yet being mostappropriate to the style and setting of the house. THE ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER 67
