flood season, wasby motor boats. By the spring of 1920,ten miles of roadway had been graded andsurfaced with gravel, and ninety miles hadbeen graded. Eight miles are now beingsurfaced with water-bound macadam, andforty-five miles will be graded during thenext six months. The drainage of theseroads has been accomplished by the useof Armco corrugated pipe. The Sutter Basin branch of the SouthernPacific runs through the property. Thereare six sidings and two terminals. Ateach siding warehouse facilities have beenprovided. Many more are in process ofconstruction. The land is divided into farms, rangingfrom small holdings up to several hun-dred and even thousand-acre tracts. Ulti-mately all of these will be cultivated byindividuals or partnerships; and the Sut-ter Basin will become a prime source offood supplies. This type of land development isworthy of careful study by engineers andinvestors, for there is no doubt that itwill play a most important part in ourfuture agricultural progress.
