Mr. Caroe has described this paintingas St. Cecilia attended by an angel/ an identificationwhich can hardly be maintained, seeing that not one of thethree figures has wings, nor the emblem of St. Cecilia. 5. On the western soffit of the western arch of the northarcade. A priest, abbot or prelate in Eucharistic vestments(the chasuble dark purplish-red) with his left hand raised tohold a staff, which is now obliterated. 6. In the nave, on the north wall of the latter, to west ofthe arcade. An undecipherable subject, the mediaeval workhaving been obliterated by having black-letter texts paintedover it at some post-Reformation date. 7. In the nave, on the west wall, to north of the westwindow. Two figures seated on a long throne or bench, andbending towards one another in the attitude which seems tosuggest the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A lesslikely alternative suggestion is that these two figures depictour Lord conversing with the Woman of Samaria.

Underneath are the re-mains of two consecration crosses,partly overlapping one another,and therefore painted at differentdates. 9. In the nave, on the spandrelof the middle pier of the southarcade. Undecipherable remains,among which appear to be traces ofmasonry pattern with rosettes andconventionally treated floral scroll-work. 10. In the south aisle, on thesouth face of the middle pier of thesouth arcade. A figure seated ona throne beneath a trefoiled archor canopy. This subject, thoughsadly obliterated, appears, fromwhat remains of it, to have sur-passed any of the others in gran-deur and dignity. 11.
