We regret that we are unable to give a transcript ofthe original Charter of Louis. It is not in the SurrendenCollection; but the recital of it in this his sons Charterproves that it was for an annual grant of one hundredmuidsof wine, to be received from the cellars ofPoissy; with passage free of toll for the monks of St.Trinity, (afterwards styled the Priory of Christ Church,)Canterbury, on these occasions, and on all others whenemployed in the purchase of provisions. It is certayn some of them did prosecute me wthso great passion, as Mr. Browne, then in the Chayr, toldSr Simondz Dieux some tyme after,1 he durst doe noother then sequester me; And young Sr Henry Vane,not long after, expostulating wth my Brother y* urged yehardnesse of ye sentence, sayd playnly, the Committee ofLords and Commons would not, for one mans sake, dis-oblige an whole County; and Mr Sergeant Wylde, see-ing their resolution to continue so furiously against me,asked Sr Simondz Dieux seriously to tell hym trwly whatmy offence was, that they would not permit, sayd he, us above to doe hym any right. 190.
