SOME ACCOUNT OF THE REMAINS OF THE PRIORYOF ST. MARTINS, AND THE CHURCH OF ST. MAR-TIN-LE-GRAND, AT DOVER. BY THE REV. F. C. PLUMPTRE, MASTER OF UNIVERSITYCOLLEGE, OXFORD. Before I enter upon a description of the remains ofthis Priory, which I had undertaken to prepare for themeeting of the Kent Archaeological Society, held atDover in 1860, I feel it right to say a few words re-specting the circumstances under which I have beenenabled, though previously a stranger to this locality,to trace out the ground-plan of the church, and ofsome of the chief monastic buildings, so far as it couldthen be ascertained. It is desirable that I should statethese particulars, even though perhaps somewhat morein detail than would usually be thought necessary, be-cause as a great part of the site of this Priory has sincebeen laid out in streets and covered with houses, andmany of the then existing fragments of walls have beenalso swept away, for the erection of modern buildings,there will not be again th
