Summary
[edit]DescriptionArcata CA Local Granite Minor Quarry.jpg |
English: Granite from the Minor Quarry at Warren Creek, a tributary of Mad River in T. 6 N., R. 1 E. Other rock from the quarry was used in the construction of the jetties at Humboldt Bay in 1915 and transported on the Granite Mountain Rock Quarry Railroad (aka Warren Creek Railroad), a spur of the Arcata and Mad River Railroad. This sample was photographed on the side of the Minor Mausoleum at Greenwood Cemetery, Arcata, California. Isaac Minor, (7 April 1830 - 11 November 1915), a Humboldt County pioneer and one of the wealthiest men in California at the time of his death, built the family mausoleum from native granite mined in his quarry. |
