English: An image of an area of the Arctic sea ice pack roughly northeast of the New Siberian Islands, captured by multiple orbits of the MODIS instrument on NASA's Terra satellite on Sept. 13, 2013, the day the NSIDC estimated Arctic sea ice to have reached its minimum extent for the year. Sea ice dominates the lower left half of the image, while open ocean and clouds cover the upper right. Thin tendrils of newly-formed sea ice are present along the edge of the ice pack, while long parallel rows of clouds known as “cloud streets” stream away from the ice.
