Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Arboretum Bandstand In 1870 Lincoln Corporation bought Monks Leys Common as the site of the city's first public park and distinguished landscape architect Edward Milner created the marvellous arboretum which opened on 26th August 1872. A crowd of over 25,000 people watched brass bands perform as well as 'Professor Renzo's Performing Dogs', Mr Emmanuel Jackson the Midland aeronaut in his new balloon and twenty ladies from Liverpool dressed as fairies. The bandstand was erected twelve years later in 1884 and restored in 2003.
