Summary
[edit]DescriptionAqueduct over Kynnersley Drive, Shropshire. - geograph.org.uk - 250050.jpg |
English: Aqueduct over Kynnersley Drive, Shropshire. This photograph, which was taken over 40 years ago, may well be the last photograph ever taken of this splendid decorative aqueduct which carried the Shrewsbury branch of the Shropshire Union Canal over Kynnersley Drive. The Shrewsbury branch joined the main line of the Shropshire Union Canal at Norbury Junction, and was built to connect the main line with the much earlier Shrewsbury Canal, which itself connected the tub-boat system of the Shropshire coal field with Shrewsbury. In the 1960s, there was a move for the restoration of this canal, but sadly this failed; it could have brought navigable water almost into Shrewsbury as well as (via the Trench branch) into Telford New Town. The Shrewsbury Canal is now but a memory. |
