Summary
[edit]DescriptionAquarium Station - geograph.org.uk - 1117965.jpg |
English: Aquarium Station The western terminus of the Volks Railway though not the original station. When it opened in 1883 the original station was virtually outside the Aquarium and named after it though it changed its name to Palace Pier when that structure opened in 1899. However, in 1929 Volk was given notice to move his railway eastwards as the local council wished to redevelop that area of Madeira Drive and the new station in this position opened in 1930. Initially a wooden hut this structure was demolished in 1940 and replaced with the current building, a former tram shelter, in 1947. |
